About the company
World-Famous Jade City! Jade City was founded in 1985 by Steve Simonovic and has been managed by his family ever since. Jade City has become a world renowned destination to visit on the Cassiar-Stewart Highway (Hwy-37). Jade City has hosted 1000's of visitors every year, giving travelers a unique experience binded by our welcoming smiles, hardwork and an endless drive to curate the finest Jade products in the world. You can choose your own unique pieces of Raw Jade directly from our minesites, the closest site being 60 Air-Miles from the property.
About the Property
Jade City is located in the Cassiar Mountain Range. With a front row seat from anywhere on our property, you get a mountain view with unmatched beauty as well as the historic might of jade mining with the surrounding jade boulders and mining equipment. The property has a total of 7 rentals - you may enjoy to mingle with our other guests as well as stop by our nearby Jade Store (Less than 100ft from any room) where you can get all kinds of information; from info About Jade to how it is mined and processed, or perhaps local area information like the Old Cassiar Townsite or any other directional guidance about our Great Northern Frontier.
Nearby Area
There are two nearby frontage roads that make for a peaceful scenic walks. One side of our property is the Jade Store with our accommodations and Jade Saw/Polishing Pavillion. During the Open Season (April- October) there is ample opportunity to check out the live work of Jade cutting and polishing procedures. The other side of our property features the original Jade Store (Est in 1985) - all visible from the current Storefront. Come explore the vast history of Jade Mining in Northern British Columbia, right from where it all started.
*For a little longer walk- there is the old ball diamond on Trout-line creek (also great for fishing).
Our staff at the Jade Store will be more than happy to point out the access to this spot.
Cassiar
Evening drive? - check out Cassiar.
Our local area is home to the abandoned "ghost town" Cassiar; while not really a ghost town, it is an old mining town that was home to approximately 5000 people at it's peak before closure in 1992. Cassiar was known for its High-Grade Asbestos and more recently Jade. Cassiar is 11km away from us and is host to one of the most scenic drives in all of B.C. You cannot access the old Townsite as it is gated property, however you will be able to see the massive tailings pile created from four-decades of mining. Many videos of Cassiar can be found on Youtube! Heres one about the History!
Boya Lake
The Northern most Provicial park with a lake in B.C. is a must see, only 35km (23 miles) North of Jade City. Boya Lake is a gorgeous provincial park with a welcoming host of camping spots, picnic tables, rental Kayaks and Canoes (20$/2hrs)
and is said to be the "warmest" lake in the North, no promises!
